James is an international human rights lawyer, social entrepreneur and academic researcher based in London.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from York University, a Graduate Diploma in Law and Bar Vocational Qualification from the University of Law and a Master’s degree in International Relations from King’s College London. He is currently undertaking research for a PhD at King’s.
James qualified as a Barrister in 2001 and developed an international criminal and commercial litigation practice. In 2006, he moved to the Middle East and co-founded FSI Worldwide, a UN award winning fair labour company, which operates in 10 countries to protect and empower migrant and other vulnerable workers.
In 2015 James launched Ethical Innovations, a social enterprise consultancy which is using smart technology and innovative legal and commercial strategies to confront labour and environmental abuses. Clients of Ethical Innovations currently include Dreamtek, The Virtual Forge, FSI Worldwide and Cleancar.
James is currently working to develop the Fair Labour Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation, which aims to increase demand for fair and sustainable employment practices. In 2019 James will also launch the Fair Labour Fund, a Jersey based vehicle to attract early stage capital for innovative social entrepreneurs
